During a recent visit, Dr Kershaw’s has been recognised by Hospice UK, who said it is “inspired” by the passion of our staff.
Compassion, inclusiveness and high-quality care are three of the values that our Hospice staff cherish. From our 12-bed Inpatient Unit to our Hospice at Home and Caring Hands teams, we are proud to provide palliative support for adults across Oldham.
Now Dr Kershaw’s has been recognised by Hospice UK, who said it is “inspired” by the passion of our staff. The national charity for hospice and end-of-life care represents a community of over 200 hospices across the UK. Earlier this year, it launched a national TV campaign to highlight the vital role that hospices play in local communities. ‘This is Hospice Care’ united over 140 hospices, including Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. Its aim was to encourage viewers to leave a gift in their Will so essential hospice services can be provided for future generations.
Following the success of the partnership, Hospice UK leaders visited Dr Kershaw’s on Tuesday 10th June. They were given a tour of the Hospice and our new gardens, which are currently undergoing an extensive renovation project.
Katie Reade, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Hospice UK, said: “It was fantastic to visit Dr Kershaw’s to learn more about their services. Visits like today’s strengthen the work that Hospice UK does, ensuring that we are informed by staff, volunteers and patients. The Hospice is a beautiful space with beautiful gardens. We are really grateful to have been invited to Dr Kershaw’s and have been really inspired by the Hospice Team. The passion of everyone we have spoken to is evident, as is their commitment to outstanding hospice care.”
The visit comes as one in five hospices warn of service cuts due to inadequate funding. In 2024, 70% of hospices were in a financial deficit.
Katie added: “Many hospices nationwide are struggling, and at Hospice UK we are very focused on campaigning for fairer funding. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated and supported the work that Dr Kershaw’s Hospice does.”
