MP Jim McMahon backs “vital” hospice

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice has been described as “vital” by Jim McMahon, Labour & Co-op MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton.

The Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution visited the Hospice on Friday 6th June. Whilst here, Jim donated some House of Commons whisky and golf balls to be used as auction prizes for fundraising events.

He was also taken on a tour of the Inpatient Unit to see how our doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants provide compassionate end-of-life care.

Jim McMahon OBE MP said: “It was fantastic to meet with the CEO of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice to thank staff for the vital work they do. As Oldham’s only hospice, Dr Kershaw’s supports some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

“From the Inpatient Unit to the Hospice at Home Team and Wellbeing Centre, it offers much-needed services for patients, carers and families. It was a privilege to witness the care and attention that the Clinical Team provides for those who need it most.

“Dr Kershaw’s is absolutely vital for people reaching the end of their lives, and the holistic, forward-thinking care is absolutely wonderful. As a local charity, the Hospice receives only one-third of its funding from the NHS. To cover the shortfall, they rely on the generosity of local businesses and the community to carry out their great work in our borough.”
