Local shopfitter transforms Dr Kershaw’s’ reception

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice’s reception has been given a boost with a new display unit for its growing range of gifts – just in time for Christmas!

The Jordon Group with our Hospice Team

Local shopfitting company The Jordon Group designed, supplied and installed the bespoke retail space for free.

Now visitors can shop a range of products, such as notebooks, diaries, badges, and homemade gifts by Kershaw’s Krafties. The Hospice also has a variety of items inspired by our lovable Hartley dog mascot, including a plush toy, storybook, and a colouring book and crayons set.

Lucy Jordan, Marketing Manager at The Jordon Group, said: “It was important that the retail space looked the part and fitted with the surroundings. Dr Kershaw’s has some amazing products that help to raise money for patients, so they needed to be shown off. Having access to the little things that can provide comfort adds a really special touch for visitors.”

The new shelves and storage were designed in-house to match Dr Kershaw’s’ existing décor, which includes a natural wood effect and plenty of light and space. Three members of The Jordon Group gave up their time to install the unit in August, and the business has also pledged to help with ongoing maintenance around the Hospice.

Lucy added: “Quality craftmanship is a key feature: we are a family business, and heritage is a big part of our story. Dr Kershaw’s does amazing work and some of my family members have used the Hospice, so it has always been close to my heart. It is such a warm and caring environment, and a home away from home.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by a life-limiting illness. It is important to support the local community, so we are more than happy to give back.”

The Hospice's new reception area

Along with the reception area, Dr Kershaw’s has charity shops in Lees, Royton and Shaw, plus a furniture outlet called The Furniture Hub. In 2024, our hospice shops contributed £589,325 towards the annual expenditure of Dr Kershaw’s, which in 2025/26 will reach almost £5.4million.

Mike McArdle, Hospice Head of Retail, said: “Our updated retail section is another way for people to engage with Dr Kershaw’s and help to raise funds for patients and their families. We have recently expanded our product line and have lots of new gifts for loved ones, including Christmas cards and calendars. These are now showcased in a beautiful display unit that matches the bright, modern style of our hospice. This is another exciting step for Dr Kershaw’s as we find new ways to fund our vital services.”

Jill Kirkham, Community and Partnerships Lead at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to The Jordon Group for providing the new display unit and its installation free of charge. The support of local businesses is truly heartwarming, and we never stop being amazed by the unique ways they find to help us. Companies like The Jordon Group show what can be achieved when the Oldham community works together.”
