Hospice Celebrates International Nurses Day with Heartfelt Tribute

On Monday 12th May, we came together to celebrate International Nurses Day, recognising the dedication, compassion and skill of our nursing team.

Our nurses were treated to a buffet lunch, goodie bags, heart shaped scratch cards with the opportunity to win one of six complementary therapy treatments, and a moving speech was delivered by Lindsey Harper, Hospice Director of Clinical Services. We also celebrated on our social media channels, the impact that our wonderful nurses make each and every day.

Lindsey said: “International Nurses Day celebrates the valuable and highly skilled work that nurses do. It’s observed every year on 12th May, on the birthday of one of the most influential nurses in history, Florence Nightingale. The day is recognised around the world to mark the contribution that nurses make to society. It is a global tribute to nurses’ selfless service and a time to reflect on all that our nurses have achieved over the last year.

Historically, nursing was seen as a calling or a vocation, but modern-day nursing can now be viewed as a highly skilled, safety-critical profession. Nurses are experts in their field, they are inspirational leaders, and they make a huge difference every day to the lives of so many.

Dr Kershaw’s recognises the contribution of our Nursing Team and we value the knowledge, skills and expertise of our dedicated nursing workforce. The theme for International Nurses Day this year is ‘Caring for Nurses Strengthens Communities.’ We pride ourselves on not just offering but delivering an extensive staff wellbeing package that our team can access and benefit from, always remembering that to care for others, we must firstly care for ourselves and each other.

We extend our gratitude and admiration to each of our nurses for the love, care, values and compassion that they share with our patients, their loved ones, and each other, often in very difficult circumstances.

We could not do what we do as a Hospice without all of our wonderful nurses.”
