Two members of Dr Kershaw’s’ Caring Hands service were rescued by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team after becoming trapped in snow and ice.
Health care assistants Rachel Woodworth and Diane Atkins were visiting patients when their car became stuck early in the morning of Monday 6th January.
Five members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were deployed to their location on Lane Head Road in Lees, enabling them to continue their visit.
The incident was one of many reported to emergency services last week, during a cold snap that saw temperatures plummet to minus 20C in some areas of the UK.
Nicola Heppenstall, Community Services Manager at our Hospice, said: “The efficient response from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team allowed our Caring Hands staff to continue to support patients living with life-limiting illnesses in their own homes. We are very grateful to them for acting promptly and allowing us to continue to support these individuals, despite the adverse weather conditions.”
Dave Wyatt, Team Leader at Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, added: “We were so glad we could assist. We’re always happy to help out in these circumstances, especially when it’s for a service that is providing such important care to people.”
