Dr Kershaw’s achieves Disability Confident milestone

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice has achieved Level 1 of the government’s Disability Confident scheme.

The voluntary scheme encourages employers to think differently about disability and improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.

According to the disability charity Scope, there are five million disabled people in work in the UK.

Disabled people are almost twice as likely to be unemployed as non-disabled people, with 72% saying they have experienced negative attitudes or behaviour in the last five years.

Mandi Halton, Hospice HR Manager said: “By actively participating in the Disability Confident scheme, we are showing our commitment to fostering equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to empower disabled people to pursue their aspirations and reach their full potential by providing equitable opportunities within the organisation. Attracting, nurturing and developing the skills and talents of disabled people will greatly benefit our staff and our Hospice.”
